The Intelligent Homesteader is a space dedicated to share my adventures in creating our family’s 21st century homestead. Homesteading in the 21st century utilizes the knowledge and experience of our forefathers as well as the ever increasing discoveries from like minded people shared in various media platforms.
Homesteading in the 21st century allows us to be as self reliant as we want to be, while staying as connected as we need to be with the outside world. The name Intelligent Homesteader is a play on words by one of my favorite books, The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham, as he seeks deep value in his process for building wealth. Many of his philosophies easily carry over to homesteading, and in life quite frankly, seeking value in decision making, not whims.
In my opinion homesteading in the 21st century does not mean living off the grid in the middle of nowhere, although it is a nice thought. Most of us still need to have somewhat conventional jobs to support our families, our lifestyle and our future.
The intent of this blog is to use all resources, past and present, in an attempt to be as physically and financially secure for the days ahead.
